What We're Wearing May 30th, 2014

Today I'm wearing Make Up Forever Smokey Extravagant mascara.Today is my first day wearing it - so I can only tell you my first impression. So far I'm loving it! It's really a three in one - it adds volume, length, and curl. I can't speak for how long it lasts, but so far so good and with one stroke it covered my lashes perfectly. Unlike most mascaras, it uses 4D technology - "an exclusive microdefining wax complex envelopes the lash surface in ultrablack pigments for far-away impact and up-close precision." I'm obsessed with the brush, it has a precision tip which perfectly separated my lashes and the base of the brush is rounded to create volume.

Napoleon Perdis - New Product Launch!

In case you haven't already noticed, I am obsessed with Napoleon Perdis. His products are AMAZING and I have made this clear so many times; gifts for your BFF,  your momachieving the perfect red lip, their perfect gloss to complement a smokey eye, and I wear his products time and time again. I showed you my before and after look for a holiday party I attended, which I loved.

I quickly got back to Bergdorfs to try two of his new products - the Auto Pilot Radiance-Boosting Mask and the Stroke of Genius Liquid Cashmere Foundation. His whole line is phenomenal and these two products are no exception.

They started by applying the mask - which is an amazing prep mask. I cannot even put into words how amazing it smells, not to mention the results you get after using it! Honestly, this mask does everything you could wish for - softens and smooths skin, blurs fine lines, and is unbelievably moisturizing (thanks to Jojoba Oil and Vitamin E). After applying it to your face, and leaving it on for 15 minutes, you can wash or tissue it off. Easy peasy. You face will be instantly prepped for makeup.

After the mask was applied, they applied the foundation. In general, I am NOT a foundation fan - it leaves my face feeling caked and gross. This foundation is now my exception. It was actually super embarrassing - the makeup artist started to apply a great feeling cream to my face (which felt nice and moisturizing), and I sat there patiently waiting for her to apply the foundation to be applied. Finally, I was like "okay, I'm ready for you to apply the foundation" and she then said, "umm, actually that's what I just applied". So, number one, I felt like a total moron, and number two, the "light cream" I thought she was applying was actually the foundation!   I couldn't believe that I couldn't feel it, and how amazing it looked (I think she showed me a mirror, because she wanted to prove it to me!). Other than how this product feels, my favorite part is the built in brush. What could be easier?

DIY Decorated Wooden Box

I am obsessed with DIY projects - they're fun to make, brighten up my apartment and make great, personalized gifts! This DIY box is one of a kind and you can't do it wrong - the messier the better.

For this DIY you need these materials:

  • Plain wood craft box (in any size your heart desires!)
  • Mod Podge
  • Paintbrushes
  • Paint - I used 3 different colors, but you can add as many as you want.
  • Stencils - I used Martha Stewart birds & berries stencils
  • Bowl of water
  • Newspaper or an old book you don't mind ripping up (I used the pages of a book).
  • Screwdriver
  • Painters tape

You need to start by unscrewing the clasps from the box. You don't want the Mod Podge to accidentally glue the box closed.

Paint a thin coat of Mod Podge over the top of the box, a sponge paintbrush will give you even coverage.

Rip up the paper and place pieces randomly over the box, let them overlap and get messy! Use the sponge brush and coat the paper with another layer of Mod Podge.

After the box has dried, it's time to start painting! I started with a wet sponge brush and pink paint to get a translucent coat on top of the box. Then I mixed green paint and water to make it runny, and dripped it all over the box.

Once the paint has dried, (it takes awhile because it's watery) place the stencil on top of the box and tape it down so it doesn't move - painter's tape works best. I started with a branch. After painting the branch (and letting it dry) I repositioned the stencil and painted a bird.

Carefully remove the stencil and let the paint to dry completely. Finally, cover the top of the box in a thin coat of Mod Podge and let that dry.

Use the screwdriver to put the box back together and admire you work!

Summer is (finally) upon us. It's time to switch out you winter nail polish for some fun summer colors!

LANCÔME - Rouge In Love

This polish is a fun twist on red - with a pink undertone it will have you ready for summer in no time.

Orange is always perfect for warm weather and this lighter, mandarin shade will work for the beach and the office.

This magenta shade is the perfect mixture of pink and purple - it will make your nails really pop.

DEBORAH LIPPMANN - She Drives Me Crazy

No color brings out a tan more than teal.

FORMULA X - Hercules

Hot pink for summer? Umm... OF COURSE! This pink has rose undertones which make it a bit more grownup.

YVES SAINT LAURENT - Bleu Majorelle

Don't worry if bright colors aren't your thing - a peacock blue is classic and summer approved.

BUTTER LONDON - Lucy In The Sky

Can't get to the beach? Not a problem, bring the beach to your nails. This polish is sheer enough for work, yet with gold and silver glitter (in a rosy, pink base) it will leave you feeling happy and in a summery mood.
