What We're Wearing

I was, of course, in a rush this morning and had no time to get ready - I tend to run late to work, almost daily, but today I was really pushing it - so I didn’t have any time to do my makeup. I did swipe some Napoleon Perdis powder onto the apples of my cheeks (and then I always swipe outwards toward my hair line to make it look natural). Pale, pasty and tired is not my best look. I am basically obsessed with this company and when they recently launched the Mosaic Flushing powder I had to have it. After applying, it truly gave me a 'healthy glow' (which now a days is promised by basically every brand/product but is often an overstatement). All of a sudden looked wide awake.... even though I wasn't.

I'm out for blood - oxblood, that is. Apologies, that was cheesy. But I don't care, because I love oxblood so I'm going to go ahead and wear all of my oxblood clothing at once. Yes, today is Friday, but it's also completely gray and rainy so I had to indulge my inner grunge. I thought the leather jacket and flannel shirt would do the trick. The foundation of this outfit is my favorite dress - it's the perfect silhouette with a nipped-in waist and flared skirt, plus a cutout back - from Thirteen Vintage. Here's to better weather this weekend - though I can't promise it will make me give up the grunge.

Somme Institute

Washes, serums, exfoliates, moisturizers, anti aging, aging prevention, acne issues.... how does one decide what to use? Face it (face it, get it? ha...ha), skin care can get a bit confusing. Different products do different things, but what if you have multiple skin care concerns (which basically everyone does)? Well, I have found you the answer... dun dun dun! Somme Institute products. They sent me over some to try and then I ended up buying some of the products because I loved them so much.

I will now outline my daily skin regimen that truly works, and believe me, I have tried many.

First, I start with the Nourishing Cleanser. It cleans my face without over-drying. (And this product is basically good for all skin types, wasn't just 'made for Sutton' which is what I would prefer to believe.)

After cleansing and patting my skin dry (never rub) I use the Transport Pads. These cotton pads have so many benefits for me, they exfoliate my skin without being too harsh (have you noticed that it is hard to find an exfoliating product that is gentle but actually works)?

Please use serum! I cannot tell you how important this step is, that so many people seem to skip (I am talking to you, Astor). Serums are the most concentrated treatments for your skin. This serum targets so skin issues; sun damage, acne, texture, etc.

A-Bomb is probably my favorite product. Not only does it lightly moisturize my skin but high concentrations of vitamin A and E help to even out my skin tone by speeding up cell renewal also helping to treat and prevent fine lines and breakouts. A-mazing (sorry, feeling punny today).

Now for the last step in my routine - sun protection. I can't stress enough how vital it is to wear an SPF on your skin daily. Double defense is perfect for this. The nourishing yet light weight SPF 30 protects my skin from the suns damaging rays, ensuring healthy skin now and for the future.

You can also get the Somme Institute Intro Kit, which is a one week trial of all 5 products. I LOVE when companies do this, what a great way to try out products!

SOF's Favorites from Lucky Magazine's Fall Edit

You guys know by now that Lucky Magazine is the bible to Sutton and I, or you haven’t been paying attention. I get like a kid at Christmas – like the Christmas when your parents realize you’re starting to doubt Santa so they totally overcompensate with the gifts – when Lucky does any sort of compilation of their seasonal picks. I’m all like “teach me your fall 2012 shopping ways, Lucky.” Not that I wouldn’t know how to shop otherwise, but this helps me realize where I want to spend my rent/student loans/electric bill money in an inspiring yet organized fashion. So when the most recent picks for fall hit Lucky’swebsite, I obviously pored over it – and figured as long as I’m doing that, I might as well share with you young pretty things. You can check out their total, comprehensive list, and now you can see what, out of everything they picked, I’ll personally be chasing.

Oh, hai, Carven dress, gathered and wrapped at all the most flattering places and covered in a cool, of-the-moment graphic print.

This Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony blazer would fill both my voids for a red coat and an oversized menswear jacket. Done and done.

We already know my unbridled love for this Kenzo sweater - mod cool has never been so effortless.

Speaking of Kenzo, ain't this dress just the prettiest little spin on this season's baroque trend?

This Carven bag is sleek and classic with a contemporary twist. I need its shape, its color, its texture, its everything.

This is why Charlotte Olympia is all that's holy in fashion. This little bag is so unique, so playful, so painfully cool. I happen to be obsessed with these little Russian dolls, so this is an obvious must. And I can keep all the little dolls inside.

There is no trend more amazing than baroque, and there is designer that did it more perfectly than Dolce & Gabbana. This needlepoint bag nails it.

The coolest take on color-blocking - love this Kenzo bag's flash of print, the jolt of color, and how it's all tempered by the sleek structure.

I have a serious Pashli addiction, more than any other cult bag, I NEED this one in every color. And while I'm not a big fan of pink, the bag's sharp, contemporary aesthetic make this a very cool take on the girly shade. I think this would get along famously with an all-black outfit.

Carven can do no wrong in my eyes, and their Renaissance-esque prints are the stuff dreams are made of. Is there any more unique way to wear such...well, unique prints than on your feet? You can pop any outfit with these ladylike, eye-catching shoes.

Chloe - master of luxe minimalism. These sculptural sandals would seriously up your fashion cred in a very sophisticated way.

Everyone's talking about these studded Isabel Marant pumps and it's no wonder why. They're the most perfect fusion of edgy and ladylike.

Nicholas Kirkwood, why are you just. So. Good? Printed high-heeled brogues? Yes, please.

Don't Your Nails Look Dapper? DIY Tuxedo Nails

Today I was feeling a little fancy and needed my nails to match. I was in the menswear mood, but didn't want to go all-out Tilda Swinton so I decided to leave the tux look on my nails. I have wanted to try tuxedo nails for a while and found a very simple way to do it, and all I needed was white polish and a nail art pen.

I started with a totally white base and then used the Sally Hansen nail art pen in black.
Available for purchase at most drugstores; I saw prices from $7 to $9

After the white polish dried I used the pen to make 5 small dots on the nail.

Now use the pen to connect the dots which will make a bow tie and then make a french manicure line on the edge of the nail.

Finally use the point to make 3 small dots between the bow and french manicure line.

Now go throw on your party dress (or sweatpants like me because you don't have plans tonight) and enjoy.
