Guatemalan Woven Textiles Meet New York Contemporary Cool at HARARE

Friday marked the debut of the FW14 collection from HARARE, a new and very exciting line from designer Caroline Fuss. Fuss is an Australian native who is now based out of New York – she’s a total textile genius who honed already admirable craft at Proenza Schouler. For HARARE, Fuss incorporates woven textiles from artisans in Guatemala into sharp, beautifully cut, flattering, unique and just really, really cool contemporary silhouettes. The line spreads awareness of the amazing work these weavers are doing in Guatemala, and it also offers us something fresh and globally conscious, not to mention incredible in quality – some things that the current market is lacking. These richly woven, boldly patterned pieces look so effortless and comfortable yet make such a statement, I am dying to wear them, all of them. Keep an eye out for some serious pattern clashes and, one of my favorites, a dropped-waist leather dress with a hint of chiffon at the hem.
