I can safely say a flat ankle boot is my favorite kind of shoe. I can wear them in summer and winter, bare legs or tights. They are comfortable and allow all-day walking, yet are boundlessly cooler and more polished than other such comfortable shoes. I always feel like even the most feminine dresses I own have a little edge and are therefore more “me” with ankle boots. And personally, because I’m short, I find them to be way more flattering than knee-high boots (don’t even get me started on over-the-knee boots). But honestly, whether you’re short or tall, have an edgy or classic style, an ankle boot will forever be a hero piece in your closet, the perfect partner to skirts and skinny jeans and leggings and…everything.
And
speaking of forever, I was on a quest for ankle boots that would last
for just that long: forever. I got into a bad cycle of buying too many
cheap pairs every fall instead of one or two great, lasting pairs. And
guess what. Every fall, the ones I bought last year are already busted
and I have to buy another batch. For this year I promised
myself an incredible pair that I know will last me forever. A pair that
defies trends and looks cool with the faster, more fleeting looks I
wear every year. The kind that looks better the more it’s worn in. So
what luck to have met the brand H by Hudson at just this time.
H
by Hudson may have been new to me – and it might be new to you – but
it’s actually an iconic brand that folks in Europe have already been
clued into for years. The Hudson line was established in 1990 and really
captures that classic cool of London style, making it the prime
candidate for a lot of punk, post-punk and indie scenesters. The
introduction of H by Hudson in 2004 kept the line evolving with even
more styles, perfect for urban stomping and country weekends. Whether
you go flat or higher-heeled, there are tons of styles that are timeless
with a hint of edge. The part I know you really want to know? The
quality is everything it’s cracked up to be. My boots are suede and SO
soft but firm enough to last forever. And they’re probably the most
comfortable boots I have ever worn – like from the first moment. No
pain-is-gain period of breaking them in. They look new, they feel years
and years old in the best possible way.
I
couldn’t be more obsessed with this pair. Could you die over the rich
navy color. I mean, right? Such an unexpected color pop yet deep and
sophisticated and neutral so you can literally wear it with anything.
And the double zips? You can wear both up, both down, one up and one
down – the possibilities are endless, which Sutton and I wanted to
demonstrate. Because we are both obsessed with these boots, and we have
completely different styles. Sutton is polished and uptown but wants to
wear these everyday. I’m edgy and downtown but want to wear these boots
everyday. How can we do that, you ask? We’ll show ya.
Here's Sutton working the uptown look:
Sutton
is wearing the H by Hudson boots with an I.C.B. blazer, H&M t-shirt
and Acne skinny jeans, with Revlon’s Photoready eyeshadow in
Metropolitan, Purminerals CC Cream, Ilia Multi-Stick in I Put a Spell on
You as blush and Lippy Butter Lip Gloss in Snog.
And me working the downtown look - I decided to do some downtown, rockerish things like standing on furniture to show these boots off, because you're going to see me wearing them a lot and I don't want you to get bored of my poses or something terrible like that.
I'm wearing an Alexander Wang vest, vintage Slayer tee, Vera Wang for Kohl's pleated (faux) leather skirt, and jewelry by Eddie Borgo, Joomi Lim and Need Supply.
Handbags and Hugs,
Astor
