Only a few days in to Fashion Week I felt confident enough to proclaim that this spring will be about showing some skin. Cutouts and perforated patterns were a factor at every single show. I obsessed over the mod chic take at Carmen Marc Valvo and now I’m also hopelessly devoted to Rebecca Taylor’s take: the sleek and sporty biker girl with the sugary twist of sorbet hues.
I wanted everything that
went past me at this show. I wish you could shop straight from the runway. The
typically tough leather biker jacket and vest were revamped with the most
perfect pastels. Dresses, sweaters and skirts were sharply and expertly
perforated. Outfits were layered but never bulky. The idea of a hoodie under a
leather vest was so quintessentially classic downtown and yet looked
high-fashion and new in the lighter colors and with the subtle details added.
The Rebecca Taylor SS14 girl is so comfortable in her own skin, she’s tough in
leather and animal print but has no qualms about hiding her girlish side that
loves the color pink and A-line skirts. And I have no qualms saying I want to
be the Rebecca Taylor girl.
