Easy Braid Styles That Make You Look Like a Hair Pro

I remember the good old days when Frederic (Fekkai, of course) would come over to do our hair... now that we are left to our own devices we needed to figure out an alternative. Here are a few braids we tried.

Braided Top Knot

For this one start by making a high pony tail; almost on top of your head.

Now braid the ponytail, you want it to be a lose messy braid. No need to worry about perfection here!

After you have braided it, tie the end with an elastic. Now the fun part: wrap the braid around the ponytail. Try to get it mostly above the top of your head. Use bobby pins to hold it in place. Tuck the end of the hair, with the elastic on it underneath and secure it with a pin so that you can't see it.

Pleated Mermaid Braid

This 'do was Astor's favorite! First sweep all your hair to the side and then put in two braids.

The braids will look uneven but that is fine because they won't  be hanging down your back.

Take out both of the elastics at the ends of each braid and tie each braid together with only one elastic.

Now you want to line up the braids next to each other.

Time to connect the braids. Use bobbypins and push them through the middle of each braid so they are connected into one giant mermaid braid!

The last step is to cover up the elastic at the end. Just take a piece of hair and wrap it around the elastic. Pin it in place and you're ready to go.

Braided Ballerina Bun

You want to start with a high ponytail, very tight, and no bumps! After that's done split your hair in half and braid each side, you will want these braids to be very tight.

Finally, wrap each braid around the ponytail again, very tightly! Secure with bobbypins and you are all set!

Long Tran FW13

A little goth, a lot dark, and all avante garde, Long Tran's FW 13 collection for men and women was definitely not for the faint of heart (or wardrobe). The pieces in this collection were designed to get you noticed -  and trust - you will be noticed when wearing them; Tran's experimental shapes and sharp tailoring would bring out the inner Gaga in anyone. Dramatic head wear complimented a collection that will definitely haunt my dreams... in a good way!

What We're Wearing

I am in DIRE need of a vacation. If you follow me on twitter (@suttonvanb) you have seen pictures of my cast, dragging this leg through the streets is no picnic. Bora Bora, Lanikai, Rio de Janeiro, I would even settle for South Beach. Honestly, at this point, I would be happy with a spa day. But nooo, Daddy says it's enough he is paying for all my cabs. Is that even legal? I'm pretty sure it's child abuse 20-something-year-old abuse. So being that I am stuck in NYC and not at a spa, the very least I could do for myself is wear Elemis's perfume. If I close my eyes I can at least pretend I'm at a spa. With undertones of cucumber, sweet grass and wood I could be in a spa, right on the beach... in my own mind that is.

I love this Alexander Wang skirt but it literally acts as a black lint magnet so unfortunately I
don't wear it as much as I'd like to. When I know the weather will be okay, etc., I bust it out - today with my Givenchy shark t-shirt and rag & bone varsity jacket.

Rochambeau FW13

Have you ever seen a menswear collection so good that it wouldn't be sufficient to see your boyfriend dressed in it, but you yourself have to wear it? Cross-dressing would never be so fashion-forward. Rochambeau's FW13 collection is that collection. I need everything from it. You need everything from it. I want our boyfriends and guy friends to be dressed in it, too, so we can see it in front of our faces all the time, but I want us to be in it, too. These pieces are the secret to that seemingly unattainable effortless cool. There are layers that lend themselves to edgy proportions yet seem anything but bulky or contrived - everything works together in a harmonious blend of urban attitude. Designers Joshua Cooper and Laurence Chandler reinvent the kind of menswear you can wear everyday with beautifully tailored yet laid-back jackets, minimalist coats with unexpected details, and slim cut shorts worn over patterned leggings that give outfits just a pop of eye-catching style. This isn't your average suit or top-and-trousers dressing. The urban warrior look that Rochambeau does so well is ever present in hoods, black layers, dramatic silhouettes and sharp finishes, but the overall effect is wearable and irresistibly cool.
